Nickel is alloyed to a broad range of metallic elements in order to produce metals with specific properties. Ferronickel, nickel alloyed with iron, has greatly contributed to urbanization globally through its use in stainless steel manufacture. The incorporation of nickel in stainless steel has allowed the creation of sophisticated products to meet developments in engineering and technology. Without stainless steel, modern industries would have found it more difficult to progress, as plant and equipment would have been prone to rust. Similarly, nickel alloys have permitted innovations in advanced steel structures, and high performance machinery. Current advanced alloy metals are found in many “high-tech” applications.
